Improving disaster prevention and search - and - rescue operations
As weather conditions become increasingly unpredictable, disaster prevention and search-and-rescue operations are placing greater demands on forces operating in coastal and island areas. Hai Phong Border Guard Command has introduced a range of measures based on the principle that safeguarding the lives and property of fishermen is given the top priority.

During the storm season, rough seas and strong winds often pose risks to vessels operating in the city's waters. In late May, border guards mobilized staffs and equipment and coordinated with other agencies to rescue 11 crew members in distress about 18 nautical miles from Long Chau Island.

To improve the effectiveness of disaster prevention and search-and-rescue operations at sea, agencies, units and local authorities should continue improving coordination mechanisms and maintain rapid, accurate and unified information sharing in handling incidents at sea. Regular rescue drills and exercises should also be conducted, while vulnerable areas should be reviewed to ensure appropriate response plans are in place. In case of tropical depressions, storms or severe weather, vessels should be called back to safe shelters and the number of fishing boats operating at sea should be closely monitored.
