From an image of President Ho Chi Minh reading the Declaration of Independence displayed prominently, the exhibition unfolds through 92 archival photographs and 76 groups of artefacts. Each document and artefact offers a glimpse into history, recounting the struggle of the city’s people and armed forces from the late 19th century to the August Revolution in 1945. More than eight decades later, the exhibits still help visitors picture the spirit and momentum of that historic autumn.

The history of Hai Phong during the August Revolution is told not only through dates and milestones. It is also a story of the strength of the people, patriotism and the aspiration for independence in a workers’ and port city. More than 80 years on, the autumn of 1945 still lives on through photographs, artefacts and stories preserved here.
