Hai Phong shipbuilding recovery and development project
Shipbuilding is one of Hai Phong's key economic sectors. However, the city's shipbuilding industry has faced numerous challenges in recent years, highlighting the need for effective measures to support its development in the coming period.
In 2026, Pha Rung Shipyard Co., Ltd. aims to achieve production value of more than 800 billion dong, repair more than 80 vessels, build seven new vessels and deliver two. The company is currently focusing on building 13,000-ton oil and chemical tankers as part of a 10-vessel series contracted with a Korean shipowner.
With a series of newbuilding and repair contracts signed with domestic and foreign partners in recent years, the company is not only working to restore operations but is also targeting double-digit growth. However, it continues to face a number of challenges related to policy mechanisms, financing, technical infrastructure and human resources. The company expects the city's Shipbuilding Industry Recovery and Development Project to set out fundamental solutions to promptly address existing difficulties and bottlenecks and put the shipbuilding sector back on a growth trajectory.
Industry experts, managers and businesses have identified a wide range of difficulties facing the shipbuilding sector, particularly in terms of human resources and other conditions needed for investment and development, while the shipbuilding market currently offers significant opportunities.
The maritime economy plays an important role in developing the marine economy. Hai Phong has identified the recovery and development of shipbuilding as a key task and aims to complete the project in the fourth quarter of 2026, laying the foundation for sustainable growth in the sector in the years ahead.
