Hai Phong port targets national and international seaport hub
As northern Vietnam’s largest maritime gateway, Hai Phong is steadily advancing toward its goal of becoming a national, regional and international key seaport center with reach, an orientation consistently defined in the city’s marine-economy and logistics development programs.
Since berths No.1 and No.2 at the Lach Huyen International Gateway Port were put into operation in 2018, the area has expanded to six berths. Last year, total cargo throughput at Hai Phong’s port system reached more than 114.5 million tons, with the Lach Huyen deep-water port accounting for about 25%, underscoring its strategic importance.
Hai Phong’s port system includes more than 50 terminals with over 14,000 meters of wharf length, playing a central role in the northern logistics chain. Cargo throughput continues to grow steadily, particularly at Lach Huyen deep-water port, which can accommodate large container vessels sailing directly to Europe and the Americas with capacities exceeding 165,000 DWT. Ongoing deep-water container port projects are creating major breakthroughs in handling capacity and service quality.
With clear central-government orientation, decisive municipal leadership, and strong business participation, Hai Phong is firmly advancing toward becoming a national key seaport center while gradually strengthening its international position.
