Hai Phong Chairman commends and rewards 10 Firefighters for outstanding performance in Venezuela rescue mission
On the morning of July 13, Hai Phong City Police held a ceremony to commend the city police delegation for successfully completing a humanitarian support mission, search and rescue operations, and disaster recovery efforts following the earthquake in Venezuela.

Mr. Do Thanh Trung, Deputy Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee and Chairman of the City People’s Committee, and Major General Bui Quang Binh, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and Director of Hai Phong City Police, attended the ceremony, personally presenting awards and encouraging the officers.

A devastating earthquake disaster struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026, causing thousands of casualties and missing people. Following an urgent deployment order from competent authorities, Hai Phong City Police sent 10 elite officers from the Fire Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue Police Division (PC07) — many of whom had received specialized overseas training — to join Vietnam’s international rescue delegation.

Just two hours after receiving the mobilization order, the officers departed overnight for the affected country with courage and determination, making every effort to “take advantage of every hour and every minute.”

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of PC07 and Leader of Team No. 5 under Vietnam’s Rescue Mission, shares updates on the situation in Venezuela.

From June 29 to July 9, 2026, the delegation was divided into several teams and worked continuously from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with some days extending through the night under harsh weather conditions.

Hai Phong’s rescue officers bravely entered dozens of meters beneath collapsed 15- to 20-story buildings — areas that other international teams had avoided due to safety risks — to search for victims.

As a result, the delegation directly recovered 57 bodies and identified 46 additional locations, helping local forces locate another 38 victims. The team also established a medical station, provided medical examinations, shared their food supplies, and contributed funds to support nearly 600 kilograms of essential goods for people in the disaster-hit areas.

For these significant contributions, all 10 officers were honored by the Venezuelan Government with the “Hero of Venezuela” Medal.

Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee Do Thanh Trung presents a letter of commendation and a reward of VND 100 million to the delegation.
