Enhancing role of multimodal transport
With logistics costs still accounting for a significant share of product prices, the development of multimodal transport is seen as a key solution to improve the competitiveness of the economy.
In Hai Phong, ports and inland waterway networks are being utilized more effectively to establish a seamless transport chain linking localities in the Red River Delta, the north-central and central regions with international seaports.
One of the pioneering businesses in this sustainable logistics network is MacStar Group. In recent years, the company has invested in a fleet of inland waterway and coastal vessels, along with a logistics system directly connecting seaports and inland container depots (ICDs) with production hubs and industrial parks in Hai Phong and across northern, north-central and central Vietnam.
According to experts, shifting each container from road transport to inland waterways or coastal shipping not only helps businesses cut costs but also eases pressure on increasingly congested national and provincial road networks.
