Welcoming Ambassador Kanat Tumysh, Chairman Do Thanh Trung expressed his pleasure at receiving the Ambassador during his visit and working trip to Hai Phong. Highlighting the longstanding traditional friendship between Vietnam and Kazakhstan since 1992, particularly the milestone in May 2025 when the two countries upgraded their relations to a Strategic Partnership, the Chairman affirmed that the Ambassador’s visit was of significant importance in creating new momentum for practical cooperation between Hai Phong and Kazakhstani localities and businesses, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, investment, transportation, and logistics.

Providing an overview of the city’s socio-economic development, Chairman Do Thanh Trung said that following its administrative merger on July 1, 2025, Hai Phong has an area of nearly 3,200 square kilometers, a population of more than 4.6 million, and an economy valued at over US$29 billion. It is also the only locality in Vietnam to have maintained double-digit economic growth for 11 consecutive years. In the first seven months of 2026, the city’s economy continued to achieve strong growth, with state budget revenue exceeding VND133.4 trillion, FDI attraction reaching US$3.266 billion, and total import-export turnover reaching VND57.4 trillion.

Chairman Do Thanh Trung emphasized Hai Phong’s outstanding advantage as the only locality in northern Vietnam with all five major modes of transport, as well as its modern international seaport system centered on Lach Huyen International Gateway Port and the city’s plan to develop the Nam Do Son port area into an international transshipment hub.

In addition, Hai Phong currently has three economic zones and 48 industrial parks, as well as a Free Trade Zone benefiting from a range of preferential and special mechanisms under National Assembly Resolution No. 226. These advantages provide a solid foundation for Hai Phong to build an integrated ecosystem encompassing seaports, logistics, industry, and international trade. The city also hopes to strengthen cooperation with Kazakhstani partners along international multimodal transport corridors connecting Asia and Europe.

Ambassador Kanat Tumysh expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm and respectful reception extended by the Hai Phong authorities. He also said he was deeply impressed by the dynamic and modern development of the port city and its strategic vision.

The Ambassador affirmed that, in its role as a diplomatic bridge, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Vietnam would actively facilitate connections and introduce Kazakhstani corporations and businesses to explore cooperation and investment opportunities in Hai Phong, particularly in areas of mutual strength such as multimodal logistics supply chains, bilateral trade, and cultural exchanges. These efforts, he said, would make a positive contribution to the Viet Nam–Kazakhstan Strategic Partnership.
