Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son Kiep Bac complex nominated for World Heritage
From July 7 to 16, the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee (UNESCO) took place in Paris (France) with the participation of 195 member countries. Vietnam nominated Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son Kiep Bac in Quang Ninh, Hai Phong and Bac Ninh for the list.
According to the heritage dossier, the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son Kiep Bac complex in Quang Ninh, Hai Phong and Bac Ninh has a total core area of over 525 hectares and a buffer zone of over 4,380 hectares. The heritage dossier was initiated by Vietnam in 2012. Over the past 13 years, the authorities have coordinated with ICOMOS - a specialized consulting organization of UNESCO, to survey and appraise the complex. The philosophy of the Vietnamese Buddhist is different compared to that in the region. Festivals such as the Yen Tu spring festival and the Con Son Kiep Bac festival take place annually, preserving the spiritual life of hundreds of years.
The nomination dossier is attributed to 13 years of research, conservation and cooperation efforts between scientists, heritage experts and local authorities. Heritage is not only historical evidence but also demonstrates spiritual depth, connecting people with nature – the factors that make up the Vietnamese identity. In the current context, the thoughts of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong on peace, reconciliation and harmony still have profound contemporary significance. Vietnam hopes that the dossier will be accepted and registered, in order to contribute to preserving a valuable heritage not only for Vietnam but also for the world community.
