Promoting local products through sculpture
In Vietnamese cultural life, local products are not only a source of pride, but also a symbol of community unity. From grapefruits, lychees to red flamboyant flowers, all were presented in unique works of sculptor Vu Duc Thang of Cam Giang commune, Hai Phong city at the National Achievements Exhibition on the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2), contributing to promoting the quintessence of traditional handicrafts of the Eastern region.
Mr. Thang is a famous sculptor in Đông Giao carpentry village (Cam Giang commune, Hai Phong city). Along with the lines of handicraft products serving market demand, he also want to create works inspired by the quintessence of the Northern countryside. Inspired by the unification of Hai Phong - Hai Duong, Mr. Thang completed the work "Hai Phong Transforms" with the combination of the image of Thanh Ha lychees with red flamboyants on a large ship. In a block with elaborate sculpture, the work harmoniously combines the cultural and tourism symbols of the two lands, leaving an impression of cultural exchange and love for the homeland of the East. This work will be introduced at the upcoming exhibition in Hanoi capital
Grapefruit - a product associated with each Northern countryside is also a source of inspiration for Mr. Thang. Through a photo of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh picking Dien grapefruit to give to the New Zealand Prime Minister at Uncle Ho's fruit garden in 2022, he created the work "Dien Grapefruit - The Diplomatic". From the leaves, flower buds to the full grapefruit are meticulously carved. The work shows pride when the grapefruit carries the message of cultural connection, promoting the homeland's products to the world.
Through the talented hands and heart full of love for the country, artisan Vu Duc Thang, the homeland's products are not only present as gifts from nature, but also become a bridge of cultural exchange, promising to spread Vietnamese spirit to the world./.
