Commemorative activities and the red flamboyant festival – Hai Phong 2026 leave a strong mark on the city's new development space
On the afternoon of June 11, the Hai Phong People's Committee held a conference to review the organization of activities celebrating major holidays in April and May, as well as the Red Flamboyant Festival – Hai Phong 2026.
The conference aimed to comprehensively evaluate the results of the events, recognize the contributions of organizations and individuals, and draw lessons to further improve the quality of organizing major city events in the future.
The conference was attended by:
• Le Ngoc Chau, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee, and Head of the City's National Assembly Delegation.
• Do Manh Hien, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee.
• Do Thanh Trung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee, and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Red Flamboyant Festival – Hai Phong 2026.
• Le Van Hieu, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Council.
• Pham Van Lap, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Phong.
They were joined by members of the City Party Standing Committee, leaders of the People's Council, People's Committee, Fatherland Front, and representatives of city departments and agencies.
Festival Highlights
According to the conference report, the Red Flamboyant Festival – Hai Phong 2026 was held in a particularly significant context, as 2026 marked the first year that Hai Phong operated within its newly expanded development framework following administrative consolidation.
With the theme "Hai Phong – Convergence – Shine", the festival and related holiday celebrations:
• Reinforced the city's cultural identity and heroic traditions.
• Fostered pride and excitement among residents.
• Promoted Hai Phong as a modern, dynamic, and rapidly developing city.
The city's leadership coordinated efforts across government agencies, local authorities, and businesses under the principle of "six clear responsibilities", ensuring progress, quality, and effectiveness.
Grand Opening Ceremony
The highlight of the event series was the opening-night artistic program held on May 8 at the Central Political-Administrative Square.
The program:
• Was broadcast live nationwide by Vietnam Television.
• Was relayed to 24 provinces and cities across Vietnam.
• Featured more than 1,000 professional and amateur performers.
• Showcased Hai Phong's history, culture, development aspirations, and growing national significance through a modern and large-scale production.
New Features of the Festival
One of the festival's most notable innovations was:
• The appointment of Hai Phong Tourism Ambassadors.
• The official recognition of Vu Yen Tourism Area as a city-level tourism destination.
• The certification of nine tourism establishments as meeting Hai Phong's Green Tourism standards.
These achievements demonstrate the city's commitment to building a civilized, friendly, professional, and sustainable tourism environment.
Cultural and Tourism Activities
In addition to the main artistic program, the city organized:
• 22 major cultural, artistic, sports, and tourism events.
• 60 supporting activities throughout the city.
Particularly notable was the activity zone around the Hai Phong Opera House Square and the Central Promenade from May 7 to May 13, featuring:
• Cultural experience spaces.
• Street performances.
• Culinary exhibitions.
• International exchange programs.
During the seven-day period, the area welcomed approximately 128,800 visitors, with peak days attracting up to 25,000 participants.
Infrastructure and Development Projects
During the celebration period, Hai Phong simultaneously launched and inaugurated 14 key projects in:
• Transportation
• Urban renewal
• Culture
• Industry
• Services
• Tourism
These projects reflected the city's determination to strengthen infrastructure, improve competitiveness, and attract investment.
Public Services and Safety
The city successfully ensured:
• Public security and order
• Traffic safety
• Fire prevention and firefighting
• Healthcare services
• Electricity and telecommunications
• Environmental sanitation
Telecommunications companies also:
• Sent nearly 8 million SMS messages promoting the festival.
• Installed 23 additional 5G BTS stations to improve connectivity for residents and visitors.
Social Contributions and Media Impact
The festival received strong support from the business community:
• 56 organizations and enterprises sponsored the event.
• Total sponsorship exceeded VND 19.394 billion.
Media coverage was extensive:
• More than 3,000 news articles, reports, and features were published.
• Digital content related to the festival attracted hundreds of millions of views and interactions, helping spread Hai Phong's image nationally and internationally.
Recognition and Awards
To honor outstanding contributions to the city's development and the successful organization of the celebrations and festival, on June 10, 2026, the Chairman of the People's Committee awarded:
• Certificates of Merit to 11 enterprises.
• Certificates of Merit to 37 organizations.
• Certificates of Merit to 44 individuals.
• Certificates of Recognition to 42 enterprises that provided financial and material support.
Representatives of exemplary organizations and businesses received awards during the conference.
Remarks by the city party secretary
In his closing remarks, Lê Ngọc Châu praised the efforts and achievements of government agencies, organizations, local authorities, and businesses.
He emphasized that the Red Flamboyant Festival has become:
• A distinctive cultural symbol of Hai Phong.
• A valuable spiritual asset created by generations of city leaders and residents.
• An important tool for promoting the city's image and encouraging economic and social development.
He called on relevant agencies to:
• Learn from experience and address remaining shortcomings.
• Improve professionalism and preparedness in organizing future events.
• Put residents and visitors at the center of service delivery.
• Develop a long-term strategy for the festival.
The ultimate goal, he stated, is to transform the Red Flamboyant Festival into a national cultural brand with international stature, helping convert cultural values into development resources and making Hai Phong a modern, distinctive, and attractive destination for tourists, investors, and friends from around the world.
