Enhancing Cooperation in Renewable Energy Development, Digital Transformation, and Green Ports between Hai Phong City and the Kingdom of Sweden
On the afternoon of November 3, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City People’s Committee Hoàng Minh Cường received and worked with a delegation from the Ministry of Energy, Business, and Industry of the Kingdom of Sweden, led by Deputy Minister Sara Modig. Also attending was H.E. Johan Ndisi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Viet Nam.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman Hoàng Minh Cường welcomed the Swedish delegation to Hai Phong and provided an overview of the city’s socio-economic development.
He noted that Hai Phong is currently one of Viet Nam’s leading industrial, seaport, and logistics centers, serving as a vital transportation hub in the Northern Key Economic Region. After merging with Hai Duong Province on July 1, 2025, Hai Phong now covers nearly 3,200 km², with a population of over 4.6 million and an economic scale ranking third nationwide, reaching USD 33 billion. The city has maintained double-digit growth for 11 consecutive years, with a GRDP growth rate of 11.01% in 2024 – the highest in the Red River Delta region.

Notably, for the first time, Hai Phong topped all four key national indexes: the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI), the Public Administration Reform Index (PAR Index), the Satisfaction Index of Public Administration Services (SIPAS), and the Provincial Green Index (PGI). The city currently hosts over 1,740 valid FDI projects with total registered capital exceeding USD 50 billion, making it one of the most attractive destinations for international investors.
Vice Chairman Cường emphasized that Hai Phong held great potential for cooperation with Swedish partners, especially in sustainable development, renewable energy, digital transformation, green ports, and modern logistics. He expressed his hope that more Swedish enterprises would expand their investments in Hai Phong, affirming the city government’s commitment to accompanying businesses in a spirit of trust, transparency, and long-term partnership.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Business and Industry of Sweden Sara Modig reaffirmed Sweden’s readiness to support Hai Phong in its green transition and sustainable port infrastructure development.

Deputy Minister Sara Modig thanked the city leaders for their warm reception and affirmed that Sweden stood ready to support Hai Phong in its green transition process, the development of sustainable port infrastructure, smart logistics, and environmentally friendly public transport systems.
She noted that this visit was a crucial opportunity to promote discussions on implementing the Strategic Sector Partnership Agreement between Sweden and Viet Nam in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation – signed during the recent official visit of Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính to Sweden.
The visit of the Swedish Ministry of Energy, Business and Industry delegation serves as an opportunity for both sides to strengthen exchanges and expand cooperation.
Currently, Sweden has three active FDI projects in Hai Phong with a total capital of over USD 48 million. Among them, the energy storage battery production project is considered significantly for sustainable energy development. In addition, cooperation between the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade and the Port of Gothenburg (Sweden) has been being actively promoted, aiming toward a green and digital logistics system.

Delegates attending the meeting

The visit and working session of the Swedish Ministry of Energy, Business and Industry delegation marked a vital occasion for both sides to enhance dialogue and expand cooperation in various potential fields, thereby contributing to strengthen the traditional friendship between Viet  Nam and the Kingdom of Sweden.
