project starts
“Hai
Phong Urban Transport Development” project has recently been kicked off with
the package CW2A to construct Dong Khe bridge and a road section from Km9+155
to km10+600.
The
project funded by the World Bank (WB) will be developed under 3 components, of
which the most important one is to build a trunk road on the East – West
transport corridor from Bac Son commune (An Duong district) to Nam Hai ward
(Hai An district). The trunk road will connect Hai Phong seaport
to the Highway No.10 toward East-West direction. Along this trunk road, 2 main
bridges, namely Dong Khe bridge (in Quan Tru ward, Kien An district) and Niem
bridge No.2, with a total width 50.5 metres divided for 6 motorway lanes and 2
local lanes will be constructed.
The
project aims to facilitate vehicles travelling in the city and transporting
goods from outside to Hai Phong port system via a new East-West linkage which
connects with the existing North-South main roads. When completed, the project
is expected to create a synchronous connection of modern transport
infrastructure, and enhance Hai Phong’s position corresponding to its
recognition of a “first-ranking city of national level”, a “key locality for
marine economic development” and a “growth pole of the Northern dynamic
economic region”.
