Cat Bi International Airport plays a crucial role in the socio-economic development strategy of Hai Phong City, the Northern coastal region, and the Red River Delta. However, the airport has primarily focused on passenger transport for many years. Meanwhile, Hai Phong is growing rapidly with a large number of investors and an increasing trend in the transportation of high-tech goods by air. The need for an international airport that can handle both passenger and cargo transport, along with integrated air logistics services, has become urgent. The Cargo Terminal Construction Project at Cat Bi International Airport is a Group B project with a total investment of more than VND 724 billion, funded by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation by January 2026. The terminal will have a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo per year, with a comprehensive infrastructure system that can be expanded to handle up to 250,000 tons per year.

The Cargo Terminal Construction Project at Cat Bi International Airport has great significance, contributing to the economic and tourism development of Hai Phong City. In addition, the completion of the infrastructure at Cat Bi International Airport will enhance the capacity to operate domestic air routes, creating opportunities to connect regions with Hai Phong City.
