Haiphong
Port Co., Ltd recently received the ever first series of cargo from
WarnowBoastwain ship to the newly-built container storage in Tan Cang
Stevedoring Enterprise (Dinh Vu). Also, 4 electric rubber tyred gantry (RTG)
cranes were put in operation here on this occasion.
According
to Mr. Truong Van Thai, Deputy General Director of Haiphong Port, the
newly-built container storage fully meets standards on handling and moving
cargo. Particularly, up to 75% of the storage area can be used as container
stacking yard while less than 30% area is for roads. It is an advanced from ordinary
storages where only 30% area is used for stacking containers whereas road
system makes up 70% area.
The 4 RTG cranes, which do not need railsto get into
storage yard as conventional ones, cost more than VND 100 billion (or about USD
4.5 million). Due to being electrically operated, the cranes help to reduce
fuel expenses by 5 times compared to diesel operated ones. With the lifting
capacity of 40 tonnes, each crane can handle 30-32 series of cargo per day;
which contributes to releasing ships faster.
