Value chain linkages in agricultural production strengthened
Hai Phong has strong potential to develop modern agriculture, with favorable conditions to efficiently and sustainably build value chain linkages and expand markets for agricultural products.
Hai Phong currently has 185,000 hectares of agricultural land, including nearly 160,000 hectares of rice, producing 800,000 to 900,000 tons of paddy per year; 45,000 hectares of vegetables, yielding 900,000 to 1 million tons annually; 28,000 hectares of fruit trees, producing 400,000 to 450,000 tons; and more than 1,000 hectares of flowers and ornamental plants, supplying millions of seedlings and plants each year. These conditions provide a strong foundation for building a modern, ecological and high-value agricultural sector.
The city has identified four key pillars for agricultural development: planning and organizing large-scale, concentrated production aligned with regional advantages; accelerating the application of science, technology and digital transformation across the entire agricultural value chain to improve productivity, management efficiency and reduce emissions; developing deep processing industries, logistics systems and building the Hai Phong agricultural and fisheries brand for both domestic and international markets to increase added value; and strengthening the “four-party linkage” between the State, scientists, businesses and farmers as a key solution to mobilize resources, transfer technology, secure market access and promote sustainable development in agriculture and fisheries.

With its potential and advantages, Hai Phong’s agricultural sector aims to build a modern, ecological, efficient and sustainable agriculture, aligned with green growth. This is seen as a key driver to increase farmers’ incomes, ensure food security and strengthen the city’s role as a regional center for agriculture and fisheries in the northern coastal region.
