High-speed rail project Ha Noi - Quang Ninh breaks ground
On April 12, Quang Ninh province and Vingroup, together with Hanoi, Hai Phong and Bac Ninh, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hanoi–Quang Ninh high-speed railway project.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attended the event, along with former Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, senior Party officials, and leaders of ministries and Vingroup. The ceremony was attended by Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee Le Ngoc Chau.
The project is invested by VinSpeed High-Speed Rail Investment and Development JSC, under Vingroup. Total investment exceeds 5.6 billion U.S. dollars, excluding site clearance costs. The railway will run more than 120 kilometres through Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh. It will start at Co Loa station in Hanoi and end at Ha Long station in Quang Ninh, with intermediate stations in Bac Ninh, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh.
The project is scheduled for completion and commercial operation in 2028. Travel time between Hanoi and Quang Ninh will be reduced from more than two hours to around 23 minutes. The railway is expected to support economic restructuring, urban development, labor mobility and tourism growth.
