Promoting scientific and technical research among students
Scientific research activities have been promoted by universities across the city to develop high-quality human resources. Many projects researched and created by students have applied the acquired knowledge to address practical problems, thereby fostering a strong scientific research emulation movement among students, especially in engineering - related fields.
In preparation for the 2025-2026 Engineering Model Building Competition, the Tesla Tension team, with five first-year students from Vietnam Maritime University, conducted research and developed an electromagnet model by utilizing permanent magnets, wrapping copper wire around an iron core, and connecting it to a power source. The team created a temporary magnet that can be switched on/off, with practical applications in the models of electric cranes, nail detectors, or creative toys, thereby helping students better understand the basic principles of the magnetic effect of electric current. The team's electromagnet model is capable of lifting heavy objects weighing 20-25 kg in a short time. This model won first prize in the electromagnet fabrication category of the recent Engineering Model Making Competition organized by the University.
This year's Engineering Model Making Competition at Vietnam Maritime University was organized into two rounds: a qualifying round at the faculty/institute level and a final round at the university level, with three competition categories of rat trap model fabrication, electromagnet fabrication, and AI programming. More than 200 teams with nearly 1000 students in total participated in the competition, including 72 teams competed at the faculty/institute level. The 36 best teams have been qualified to the final round.

Through competitions and creative platforms, students not only sharpen their logical thinking and problem-solving skills but also learn teamwork, presentation, and idea defense abilities. These are essential in the context of international integration and scientific and technological development, while also broadening experimental learning opportunities, encouraging students transform creative ideas into products with practical value, facilitating the high-quality human resources development for the city.
