Efforts in preserving traditional carpentry villages
When mentioning Dong Giao village, Cam Giang commune, many
people will immediately think of a traditional carpentry village that has
developed over hundreds of years
Here, each product not only has historical
value but also shows the quintessence, talented hands and passion of the
craftsman.
Upholding that tradition, many families have had a younger generation to
succeed them, such as Mr. Vu Dinh Quy, a new carpenter who has been involved in
the traditional craft since 2021, taught by his father from basic techniques to the
most sophisticated details.
Currently, the entire Dong Giao village has about 800 households
maintaining wooden handicraft items. The average income per capita is from 15 to
20 million VND per month, especially for highly skilled artisans, this number can
be up to 50 - 100 million VND.
In a bid to preserve and develop the craft village, Dong Giao Village has
taken a wide range of solutions such as proposing preferential loan support
packages through the banking system, creating conditions to maintain the
traditional craft, expanding vocational training, attracting workers from other
localities for both solving employment and contributing to preserving traditional
beauty.
