Hai Phong seeks to make tourism a key economic driver
The Politburo Resolution No. 26 on developing Vietnamese tourism into a spearhead economic sector in the new era sets out the goal of developing high-quality, smart, green and creative tourism, rich in cultural identity, with high added value and the capacity to compete regionally and internationally. These broad orientations also create new requirements and momentum for localities with strong tourism potential, including Hai Phong.

In Hai Phong, following the merger, the city's tourism space has expanded, encompassing a diverse range of resources: from Cat Ba Archipelago, Do Son and the port urban area to Con Son - Kiep Bac, together with cultural, historical, spiritual and ecological heritage sites, as well as craft villages in the western part of the city. The Master Plan for Hai Phong Tourism Development to 2030, with a vision to 2045, also sets the goal of making tourism a genuine spearhead economic sector, developing it in a professional and modern direction, with a clear focus on key areas and priorities, while emphasizing depth, quality and efficiency.

Hai Phong aims to welcome around 25 million visitors by 2030, including 3.5 million international visitors. Total tourism revenue is expected to reach around VND55 trillion, contributing approximately 5.5% of the city's GRDP. This places a requirement on the city to build a tourism ecosystem capable of retaining visitors and increasing their spending.

From a strategic orientation set by the central government to implementation in each locality, Resolution No. 26 calls for a new approach: not merely exploiting resources to develop tourism but sustainably turning the unique values of each area into economic value. For Hai Phong, the spirit of the Resolution is also the very goal that the city's Master Plan for Tourism Development has been pursuing — making tourism a key economic sector in the new era.
