Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority Signs MoU with Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water)
Continuing its investment promotion program in South Korea, on the afternoon of June 5, a delegation from Hai Phong led by Do Thanh Trung visited and witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority and the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water).

K-Water is one of the world’s leading organizations in integrated water resource management.

About K-Water

K-Water is a large South Korean state-owned enterprise with:

Total assets of approximately USD 27 billion
Annual revenue of nearly USD 4 billion

The corporation is known for advanced technologies such as:

Smart water network management systems
AI-powered water treatment plants
Tidal power generation
Renewable energy technologies

In South Korea, K-Water manages:

20 multipurpose dams
14 water supply dams
About 95% of flood control capacity
Roughly 50% of national clean water supply

The company is also expanding globally, including projects and technical cooperation in Vietnam such as in Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, and Ho Chi Minh City.

Hai Phong’s industrial development needs

During the working session, Mr. Pham Van Thep, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority, emphasized the city’s strong industrial expansion plans, including:

Development of 46 industrial zones
More than 13,000 hectares of industrial land
Over 370,000 expected workers

This rapid growth is driving significant demand for:

Clean water supply infrastructure
Industrial wastewater treatment systems
Efficient and safe water resource management

The city expressed its expectation that K-Water would share expertise and collaborate on modern, sustainable water management solutions for industrial and economic zones.

K-Water representatives acknowledged Hai Phong’s strong development potential and noted that rapid industrialization and urbanization create complex challenges in water resource management.

Key contents of the MoU

The signed Memorandum of Understanding focuses on cooperation in:

Investment in water supply infrastructure
Wastewater treatment systems
Digital transformation in water sector operations
Management and operation of water systems in industrial zones and economic zones
Coordination and support for ODA-funded water projects
Broader diplomatic activity

After the signing ceremony, Chairman Do Thanh Trung and the delegation visited and paid a courtesy call to the Embassy of Vietnam in South Korea.
