Hai Phong City Promotes Investment and Signs Multiple Strategic Cooperation Memorandums with LG Group
The program was attended by Vu Ho, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to South Korea, and Pham Van Thep, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority. The event marked a new chapter in cooperation aimed at transforming Hai Phong into LG’s largest manufacturing and carbon-neutrality hub in Southeast Asia.

The morning investment promotion conference attracted numerous satellite companies and suppliers within LG’s global supply chain network.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman Do Thanh Trung emphasized that the LG ecosystem has significantly transformed the city’s economic landscape and industrial mindset. He proposed three strategic priorities:

Transfer and development of core technologies.
Building a sustainable supply chain aligned with ESG standards.
Creating breakthroughs in the development of internationally qualified human resources.

Mr. Moon Byeong Hoon, General Director of LG Electronics Vietnam Hai Phong, highly praised Hai Phong’s attractive investment environment and described it as an ideal launchpad for satellite enterprises seeking to expand production.

During the discussion session, participating businesses openly raised practical concerns regarding worker housing development, wastewater treatment systems, licensing procedures for small-scale factories, and land lease pricing policies. City leaders directly addressed these issues, demonstrating Hai Phong’s commitment to supporting investors and creating favorable business conditions.

In the afternoon, the delegation held specialized working sessions with LG’s core affiliates, including LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek, and the LG Global Strategy Development Institute.

During separate meetings, Hai Phong successfully signed three important investment cooperation memorandums with LG Electronics, LG Display, and LG Innotek.

With LG Electronics, the city agreed to cooperate on workforce training programs that meet international standards and to strengthen internship exchange initiatives.
With LG Innotek Hai Phong committed to helping resolve obstacles affecting new projects and to jointly establish a “Green Innovation Center.”
Regarding LG Display, the city acknowledged proposals related to ensuring a stable electricity supply, providing land for warehouse development, and attracting highly skilled talent.

During discussions with the LG Global Strategy Development Institute, city leaders expressed interest in learning from LG’s experience in artificial intelligence (AI) and renewable energy. The institute confirmed that it would prioritize Hai Phong in its future investment expansion plans.

The successful outcomes of the working visit further reinforce the leading role of the LG ecosystem in attracting South Korean foreign direct investment (FDI) to Hai Phong. Total South Korean investment in the city has now exceeded USD 14 billion.

To date, LG alone has invested USD 10.6 billion across seven major projects in Hai Phong, with LG Display accounting for nearly USD 5.7 billion. The ecosystem has also attracted more than 50 satellite enterprises.

LG’s manufacturing complexes currently account for approximately 43% of Hai Phong’s total export value, contribute an average of USD 66 million in annual tax revenue, and provide stable employment for nearly 31,000 local workers.

The achievements of this visit underscore Hai Phong’s growing position as a major destination for high-tech manufacturing, sustainable industrial development, and future investments in AI, renewable energy, and carbon-neutral production in Southeast Asia.
