Ensuring maritime security and safety
To ensure maritime safety, the Hai Phong Maritime Port Administration, responsible for waterways management, vessel coordination, incident responses and collaboration with relevant units, effectively utilized its assigned equipment to maintain safety on waterways and surrounding seas, particularly the gateway area at Lach Huyen.
The Hai Phong maritime waterway spans over 78 km, divided into five sections: Lach Huyen, Ha Nam Canal, Bach Dang, Song Cam, and Vat Cach. The Lach Huyen section, over 22.6 km long, is a vital waterway, serving as the gateway to ports in Hai Phong and inland ports in other localities.
Last year, the city’s seaport system continued to grow in terms of cargo throughput and number of vessels. The operation of berths No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 at Lach Huyen created the busiest and most dynamic seaport area in the region. Through effective management and operation of the Maritime Traffic Monitoring and Coordination System (VTS), the Hai Phong Maritime Port Administration effectively guided and monitored tens of thousands of vessels.
Maritime traffic coordination plays a key role in improving the efficiency of maritime and port operations in Hai Phong. Last year, Hai Phong port welcomed more than 41,500 vessels entering and leaving for cargo handling, with a throughput of over 115 million tons further affirming the strategic role of Hai Phong seaport - the gateway for trade with the North and the world.
