Kien Bai Communal House–Where Ancient Beauty Is Preserved
Kien Bai Communal House was built in the 17th century. It is located in the East hamlet of Kien Bai commune, Thuy Nguyen district, and features unique and ancient architectural beauty.
Kien Bai is the only communal house made entirely of ironwood in Hai Phong City that retains the original flooring system from its initial construction. The outer communal house, also known as the front hall, consists of three compartments, one being the middle compartment where sacrificial rituals are conducted. The inner communal house consists of three rooms and is the resting place of the village’s Tetelary God. Kien Bai Communal House is attractive to tourists and researchers because of its historical values and the talented and generous architectural decoration art of the ancients.
Kien Bai Communal House is a typical architectural relic of the (Later) Le dynasty, a cultural product of the 17th century when Vietnam saw the most brilliant development of folk art. Aside from its unique ancient architectural beauty, Kien Bai Communal House is also the place to organize many big festivals from the 10th to the 13th day of the first lunar month every year, demonstrating folk cultural activities representing the life, culture, and spirit of the residents in the commune. /.
