Hai Phong Traditional Theatre Performs “The Vital Spirit of Duong Kinh” at the Opening Ceremony of the Mac Dynasty Rural Market 2026
On the morning of July 23, the City Art Council and the Organizing Committee of the Mac Dynasty Rural Market 2026 held a full rehearsal for the opening artistic program themed “The Vital Spirit of Duong Kinh.” The program is performed by the Hai Phong Traditional Theatre.

The opening artistic program of the Mac Dynasty Rural Market 2026 will take place on July 25, 2026, at the Special National Relic Site of the Mac Dynasty Kings’ Temple. The program is staged as an epic artistic performance consisting of two chapters.

The first chapter, titled “Opening a Prosperity Market and Nurturing Talented People,” and the second chapter, titled “The Vital Spirit of Duong Kinh – Glorifying the Mac Dynasty,” feature a series of performances, including “The Thousand-Year Mac Dynasty” (music by Ngoc Son, lyrics by Dang Nam, choreography by Master Tien Thuan), “Our Vietnam Melody (composed by Tuan Cry and Masew), “Calligraphy (composed by Nguyen Duy Hung, choreography by Master Tien Thuan and Duong Dung), and “Lady of the Upper Highlands”, among others.

“The Vital Spirit of Duong Kinh” is a journey back to the roots of a land known for its outstanding people and rich cultural heritage, where the spiritual energy of rivers and the sea has nurtured the determination, intelligence, and resilience of communities in the northeastern coastal region. From this foundation emerged the Mac Dynasty, a historical dynasty that left significant marks in politics, culture, education, and economic development.

The program combines traditional Vietnamese art forms such as Cheo (traditional Vietnamese opera), folk singing, folk dance, and traditional music with contemporary songs featuring folk influences, creating an artistic space that is both solemn and sacred while remaining familiar and emotionally engaging.

Through the integrated languages of music, dance, and theatrical performance, the program guides audiences through layers of historical space, showing how the vital spirit of Duong Kinh continues to be preserved through rural villages, traditional markets, Cheo melodies, craft villages, local products, and the diligent working spirit of local people.

The artistic program serves as a symphony connecting the past and present, affirming the enduring vitality of cultural heritage while inspiring aspirations for development in the new era. It also features newly arranged and orchestrated works that express pride in the historical land of Duong Kinh and the modern city of Hai Phong.

The program is produced by a creative team including scriptwriters Huy Thanh and Tien Thuan, choreographer Master Tien Thuan, director People’s Artist Tran Quoc Kien, and artistic director Master Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, Director of the Hai Phong Traditional Theatre. Performers include Meritorious Artists Tuyet Lan, Thuy Dung, Kim Oanh, and Thanh Binh, singer An Thu An (Second Runner-up of Sao Mai 2020), Mrs. Mac Minh (Miss Tourism World 2025), singer Tran Cuong, and other artists and performers from the Hai Phong Traditional Theatre.

The Mac Dynasty Rural Market is an annual event organized by the Mac Clan Council to preserve, honor, and promote the historical and cultural values of the Mac Dynasty and the Duong Kinh region. The event contributes to preserving and spreading Hai Phong’s traditional cultural identity among residents and visitors.

The market recreates the cultural and commercial atmosphere of traditional rural markets during the Mac Dynasty through artistic performances, hands-on experiences, traditional craft demonstrations, local cuisine, regional products, and folk arts. It aims to educate younger generations about history, foster pride in homeland and country, and promote cultural values.

The event also contributes to developing the Mac Dynasty Rural Market into a distinctive cultural and tourism product of Hai Phong, gradually building it into an annual event with strong appeal for domestic and international visitors. Through this, it supports tourism and service development while promoting the image of the city.

At the rehearsal, the Organizing Committee and members of the City Art Council recognized the efforts and dedication of the artists and performers of the Hai Phong Traditional Theatre. With its elaborate staging and artistic quality, the program is expected to leave audiences with memorable impressions of Vietnam’s unique traditional cultural and artistic heritage.
