After the merger, the city has a large livestock population. By the end of November, the number of buffalo and cattle in the city was estimated at nearly 29,000; the number of pigs at over 620,000; the number of poultries reached at over 24.6 million, meanwhile the estimated output of live pigs for slaughter reached at nearly 245,000 tons.
Recently, African swine fever and avian influenza A H5N1 have re-emarged in some localities in the city, however thanks to the timely and effective implementation of disease prevention and control measures, the outbreaks have been contained and handled promptly, preventing widespread transmission and minimizing the negative impact on the livestock sector.
In year-end months, the livestock sector will continue to prioritize disease prevention and control measures, o boost production and maintain productivity and output of various meat products. With abundant and diverse supplies, it is predicted that consumer demand will increase significantly during the year-end and Lunar New Year holidays, but food products will still be sufficient to meet the demand, so no shortages are anticipated.
