At the working session with Oakland City’s government, the Secretary of Hai Phong City’s Party Committee, Mr. Le Tien Chau, thanked Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao for the warm reception. As one of the largest port cities in the United States, Oakland City has cooperated with several localities in Vietnam. The Secretary of Hai Phong City’s Party Committee introduced an overview of the potentials and advantages of Hai Phong - the largest port city in the North of Vietnam with a GRDP of over 13%. Many corporations in the world’s top 500 have chosen Hai Phong for investment, such as General Electric, Chevron, LG, Bridgestone, AEON, SK, and Pegatron. Hai Phong City has a synchronous and modern transportation infrastructure with seaports and international airports. The Lach Huyen International Deepwater Port can accommodate 200,000-ton vessels and transport cargoes directly to Europe and America without having to transship via regional ports.

One segment making considerable contributions to Hai Phong's success is the city's economic zones and industrial parks, which come with preferential policies in investment attraction. Hai Phong City also has high-quality human resources and can provide a large number of skillful workers to investors. 

Particularly, the Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago complex is a world natural heritage that will be an ideal tourist and resort destination for investors and tourists. Hai Phong is ready to prepare favorable conditions to meet the requirements of US investors when investing in Hai Phong, especially in fields such as construction, operation and management of seaports, human resource education and training, and medicine.

As her part, Oakland City’s Major Shengthao said that Oakland was a city with a long history and culture, and especially strong in the cinema industry. The Oakland port was one of the largest export ports in Northern California, with a large volume of cargo exchanged with Asia. Vietnam is currently the second-largest import and fifth-largest partner with Oakland Port. She hopes that the signed Memorandum of Understanding would create conditions for the two sides to strengthen cooperation in all fields, especially the strength fields of both sides as a seaport, as well as promoting import and export growth between Vietnam and the US.
