Improving children's water safety skills
To reduce the risk of drowning among children, localities across the city have actively opened swimming classes and competitions to help children develop swimming and water-safety skills.
Following guidance from the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training on preventing accidents and injuries, including drowning among students, Hong Bang Ward organized a 2026 swimming competition for children and teenagers, along with a water-rescue event aimed at preventing accidents and drowning.
A total of 153 athletes from primary and secondary schools in the ward competed in 37 events across different distances. The athletes were selected through school-level competitions, as well as swimming assessments and skills tests.
In addition to raising students' awareness of the benefits and importance of learning to swim and preventing drowning, schools and Hong Bang Ward are equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed for safe swimming and drowning prevention, as well as basic first-aid skills for people who are drowning. They are also selecting students to compete in swimming events organized by the city.
