Hai Phong's port and maritime infrastructure continues to improve
During the 2021–2025 period, Hai Phong’s seaport infrastructure achieved remarkable and comprehensive development, laying the foundation for the future establishment of a national smart seaport–logistics hub. The seaport system in Hai Phong currently comprises six main port clusters with diverse capacities and functions, with a total handling capacity of approximately 170–180 million tonnes of cargo per year, including more than 7.5–8 million TEUs of container cargo annually. In 2025, the city’s container throughput accounted for nearly 40% of the country’s total.
Among them, Lach Huyen Port is the only deep-water port in northern Vietnam capable of accommodating vessels of up to 200,000 DWT. It plays a key role in the national logistics network and the Red River Delta region. Alongside the development of maritime channels and the seaport system, Hai Phong has established close links between industrial–port centers and freight transportation. As the “gateway to the sea” of northern Vietnam and a major international direct import-export hub, Hai Phong is directly connected with Hanoi and the Capital Region, creating a “strategic infrastructure core” within the Hanoi–Hai Phong–Quang Ninh growth triangle.
