International cooperation in maritime workforce training
As the global maritime industry moves rapidly toward digitalization, automation and emissions reduction, today's workforce needs more than professional expertise. It must also be able to master new technologies. International cooperation is one way educational institutions can strengthen the effectiveness of their training programs

NS United Kaiun Kaisha of Japan has provided Vietnam Maritime University with an engine-room simulator. The system can simulate modern engine technologies, including LNG and dual-fuel engines, allowing students to gain experience in an operating environment, giving students hands-on experience in a near-real operating environment during training.

“I realized that the engine-room training system needed to be upgraded to meet the new demands of the maritime industry. At the same time, global maritime transport is undergoing profound changes, requiring maritime training institutions to prepare personnel with the skills needed to work on modern generations of ships. That is why we decided to provide the engine-room simulator. We hope to continue supporting the university in training high-quality maritime personnel, helping meet the increasingly demanding requirements of the international maritime transport industry in the future.”

Simulation-based training is one of the core elements of maritime education. The cooperation not only adds modern training equipment, but also demonstrates the value of connecting educational institutions with international businesses, helping training programs better reflect the actual requirements of the maritime labor market.

“It is truly a very valuable gift. The system can simulate all the key aspects of a modern engine room. This will allow our students and lecturers to gain access to the latest technologies. In the coming period, the university will have more simulation rooms, laboratories and practical training facilities designed to meet the highest standards in terms of both scale and quality. Internationally standardized knowledge requirements will also be applied to training methods across the university.”

With the goal of developing Vietnam Maritime University into a key national institution for training and research serving the sustainable development of the marine economy, the university continues to strengthen cooperation with prestigious higher education institutions around the world; attract funding, research investment and consultancy; and implement foreign-funded programs and projects to develop facilities, laboratories and equipment for training, scientific and technological activities.
