An Duong - a great historical tradition
Since the old days, An Duong district (formerly known as Hai An) has been written in the very first national geographical history. Back then, the district had 63 communes with a flourished multi-faceted economy. September 11th 1887, the French founded Hai Phong province consisting of 3 districts of Nghi Duong, An Duong and An Lao.

Since the old days, An Duong district (formerly known as An Hai) has been written in the very first national geographical history. Back then, the district had 63 communes with a flourished multi-faceted economy. September 11th 1887, the French founded Hai Phong province consisting of 3 districts of Nghi Duong, An Duong and An Lao.
An Duong district’s land was then reduced to 11,245 ha. In 1966, Hai An and An Duong were annexed to be An Hai district with a total area of 20.842 hectares and a population of over 230,000 people. In May 2003, in relevance with local economic development requirements, the Government issued Decree 106 to adjust the administrative boundaries by which An Hai was once again devided into Hai An and An Duong districts.An Duong is a land of historical richness. In the course of building and defending the country, the district is an inseparable part of the city. For thousands of years, local generations have been such brave and indomitable people not only in building life but also in the insurrections against the invaders.
When the French invaded, An Duong people stood up to fight. The entire district was wholeheartedly determined to follow the party in the war against the intruder with resounding achievements to beautify the national tradition of unyielding patriotism. Bach Dang sportsmanship tradition had always encouraged the local resident’s indomitability. With the traditional fighting power to save the country, from the beginning of the war, An Duong military and civilian had built Cam Lo - An Duong line of resilience, a great guerrilla company of Dang Cuong. The district opened the famous fighting in the national road 5, and President Ho Chi Minh praised ''June 1947, An Duong guerrilla started the first mine combat'' to beautify ''the traditional loyalty and courage of Hai - Kien people.''
