Hai Phong is home to a long-standing cultural tradition, with many famous figures and intellectuals contributing to popularize the tradtion: Nguyen Binh Khiem - pioneer and contributor to many new directions of development for Vietnamese poetry; the late poet Dong Duc Bon with his talented six-eight verses; poet Thi Hoang, who was awarded a State Prize in 2007, etc. There are hundreds of other poets who have joined and are joining the Hai Phong Writers Association, along with a large number of non-professional writers participating in the city's poetry clubs. It is their works and love for poetry that have contributed to making the flow of poetry in the port city increasingly rich and profound.

Vietnam Poetry Day is held annually to honor the poetic art, praise the achievements of the country and the city, inspire liveliness and creativity, as well as represent the nation’s great aspirations. Poetry Day has attracted a large number of authors and poetry enthusiasts to participate, opening a new year for Hai Phong's literature and arts.

The Poetry Day is held in a springtime atmosphere to commemorate 95 years of the Foundation of Vietnam’s Communist Party, in the context of Haiphong people and authorities proactively preparing for the upcoming 14th National Party Congress and 17th Provincial Party Congress; the 10th Congress of the Hai Phong Literature and Arts Association (term 2025-2030) and other grand celebration of the city and the country.
