Hai Phong’s GRDP grows by 11.33% in the first six months of 2026 leading among centrally governed cities
On the morning of July 6, the Hai Phong Statistics Office held a press conference to announce socio-economic statistics for the first six months of 2026. The report showed that despite challenges and uncertainties from the global economic environment, Hai Phong’s socio-economic development continued to maintain strong momentum achieving positive and comprehensive results across most sectors.

Record GRDP Growth in the Past Five Years

According to the released data, Hai Phong’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in the first six months of 2026, at constant 2020 prices is estimated to have increased by 11.33% year-on-year.

With this result, Hai Phong ranked first among Viet Nam’s seven centrally governed cities, second in the Red River Delta region, and third nationwide. This represents the city’s highest first-half-year growth rate in the past five years.

Growth contributions were relatively balanced among economic sectors industry and construction grew by 13.46, contributing 7.06 percentage points to overall growth, services grew by 10.24%, contributing 3.58 percentage points.
Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries grew by 2.23%, contributing 0.14 percentage points.
Product taxes minus product subsidies increased by 8.69%, contributing 0.55 percentage points to overall growth.
Industry and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Continue as Key Growth Drivers

Industrial production continued to demonstrate its role as the core growth engine of the port city. The Industrial Production Index (IIP) in the first six months is estimated to have increased by 14.79% year-on-year marking the fifth consecutive year of double-digit growth.

The processing and manufacturing sector remained the main contributor growing by 15.25%. Several high-tech industries and transportation-related manufacturing sectors recorded strong breakthroughs, including video game consoles: 7.3 times higher, speakers: 15.34 times higher, metal assembly product sets:= up 154.3, electric bicycles and motorcycles: 3.4 times higher, premium electric vehicles: up 30.7%

The construction sector maintained solid growth with estimated added value increasing by 9.78%. The city has accelerated the implementation of major infrastructure, urban development, and housing projects, including Vinhomes Golden City, Trang Cat Social Housing Project, Hoang Huy Green River, Cai Gia – Cat Ba Tourism Urban Area and The Centric Masterise Homes.

As of June 25, 2026, total foreign direct investment (FDI) attracted by Hai Phong reached an impressive US$3.135 billion, equivalent to 176.7% of the same period in 2025 (an increase of 76.7%).

FDI inflows continued shifting toward higher-quality investments with US$2.859 billion directed mainly into industrial parks and economic zones accounting for 92.4% of total attracted capital. These investments are primarily focused on high-tech industries and sustainable processing and manufacturing.

To date, Hai Phong has 1,853 active FDI projects with total registered capital of approximately US$54 billion.

Vibrant Trade and Services; State Budget Revenue Exceeds Expectations

Trade and service activities maintained strong growth. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first six months are estimated at VND 207.84 trillion increasing 15.16% year-on-year.

The transportation, warehousing, and logistics sector continued to leverage the city’s seaport advantages generating estimated revenue of VND 100.12 trillion, up 18.11%. Cargo throughput reached 96.08 million tons increasing 11.42%.

Driven by tourism stimulus programs and the Red Flamboyant Festival – Hai Phong 2026, the tourism sector experienced strong growth, serving 7.28 million visitors, up 15.04%, including 601,000 international visitors.

State budget revenue achieved highly positive results, reaching an estimated VND 113.55 trillion, exceeding the six-month revenue scenario, fulfilling 53.6% of the annual target, and increasing 12.4% year-on-year.

Of this domestic revenue reached VND 59.84 trillion (up 2.5%), revenue from import-export activities reached VND 47.44 trillion (up 14.8%), prices remained well controlled, with the average Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the first six months increasing 3.95% year-on-year remaining within a safe range for macroeconomic stability.

Ensuring Social Security and Promoting Cultural Development

Alongside economic breakthroughs, Hai Phong continued to achieve positive results in cultural and social development.

The labor market recovered positively with the employment rate among people aged 15 and above reaching 98.35%. Social welfare policies and support for people with meritorious contributions were implemented effectively.

The healthcare sector introduced innovations through a program providing periodic health check-ups and free screenings for more than 2.19 million residents, covering 52% of the city’s population.

Education continued to affirm Hai Phong’s leading position nationwide. The city achieved 208 awards at the National Excellent Student Competition, placing it among the top four localities in Vietnam with the highest number of awards.

Sports also recorded impressive achievements with Hai Phong athletes winning 604 medals at national and international competitions.

Traffic accidents decreased significantly across all three criteria while the number of fires and explosions fell by 114 cases compared with the same period last year.

Determined to Achieve Full-Year Growth Target of Over 13%

At the press conference, Director of the Hai Phong Statistics Office Tang Ba Phuc announced key tasks and solutions for the second half of 2026 to ensure the city achieves its annual GRDP growth target of 13% or higher.

Hai Phong will closely monitor business performance carefully review growth potential in key industries, decisively address obstacles, and accelerate public investment projects — particularly major transport infrastructure projects such as Ring Road No. 2 (Tan Vu – Hung Dao – Bui Vien section) and Nguyen Trai Bridge.

At the same time, the city will maximize the potential of its strategic service sectors, including seaports, logistics, and tourism; continue proactively attracting high-tech FDI projects with high added value and promote rapid, sustainable economic development.
