City Leader Welcomes Delegation of Chinese Scholars, Experts, and Enterprises
On April 17th morning, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of Hai Phong People's Committee, hosted a delegation of Chinese scholars, experts, and enterprises led by Professor Tao Yitao – Director of China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (Shenzhen University) – during their visit to Hai Phong City.

 

Expressing his appreciation for the delegation’s interest, especially that of Professor Tao Yitao, Chairman of Hai Phong People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung briefed the delegation on Hai Phong’s socio-economic achievements and reaffirmed the city's commitment to supporting investors. In addition to its currently operating industrial parks, Hai Phong is also developing a southern coastal economic zone covering more than 20,000 hectares and is cooperating on the construction of the Lang Son – Hanoi – Hai Phong railway line. This initiative aims to boost trade connectivity between Hai Phong and other regions, including China.

China currently ranks first in terms of the number of FDI projects in Hai Phong, with 440 projects, and second in terms of total investment capital, at 6.52 billion USD. Expressing great appreciation of the quality of China’s investment projects, the Chairman of Hai Phong City People’s Committee proposed Professor Tao to help promote stronger cooperation between Hai Phong and Guangdong Province in various fields such as investment, trade, education, and training high-quality human resource —especially in science and technology, renewable energy, and the development of a free trade zone. He also mentioned that, under the Vietnamese Government's plan to streamline the administrative apparatus, Hai Phong is expected to merge with Hai Duong Province. This would result in a significantly larger economy for the newly formed administrative unit in the near future.

On behalf of the delegation, Professor Tao Yitao expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and expressed a positive impression of Hai Phong. He praised the city’s strong development and favorable investment environment, recognizing Hai Phong as a growth driver of northern Vietnam. Professor Tao also commented that the upcoming merger with Hai Duong will place higher demands on governance, especially in terms of digital transformation and AI application, these are the strengths of many Chinese enterprises. He shared that Chinese enterprises are continuing to explore investment opportunities in Hai Phong, particularly in fields of mutual interest such as infrastructure development, supporting industries, tourism technology and services, and workforce training./.
