Located in the Northern region, Bach Long Vi Island is approximately 130km from Hai Phong's city center and plays a crucial role in asserting sovereignty over sea territories, defining the Gulf of Tonkin borders, and advancing the marine economy of Hai Phong in particular and Vietnam in general. The current fishing port in the Southwest of the island was built in 2000 and has a limited capacity for around 200-300 small fishing boats, while a new port is undergoing construction on the Northwest side. The city is investing in expanding the port facilities, including a water area of over 20 hectares, with an anchorage capacity of about 600 ships.

The upgraded project will include upgrading the breakwater with a total length of 1100m, constructing a dock for ships up to 1000CV, dredging the anchorage area for storm protection, and establishing a system of anchor posts and buoys for sheltering boats during storms.

This sub-project will boost the socio-economic development of Bach Long Vi Island and ensure national defense and security, as well as align with the city's plan to build a network of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels. This initiative will contribute significantly to transforming Hai Phong into a hub for fisheries, marine logistics, and search and rescue services in the Northern region, in line with the Politburo's Resolution No. 45 issued on January 24, 2019, outlining the development goals of Hai Phong until 2030, with a vision towards 2045 and positioning the city as a key area in Vietnam's marine economy./.
