Action month for the elderly launched
This morning in Hai Phong, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly held a ceremony to launch Action Month for the Elderly 2026. Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairwoman of the National Committee on the Elderly in Viet Nam, Mr. Le Ngoc Chau, Party Central Committee member, Secretary of Hai Phong Party Committee and Head of the city’s National Assembly delegation, along with leaders of the People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city attended the event.

With the theme “Joining hands in elderly-care amid population aging,” this year’s Action Month aims to raise awareness and strengthen the responsibility of all levels, sectors and society as a whole in caring for older people and promoting their role in society. According to the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, as of September this year, more than 3.5 million older people nationwide were receiving monthly social insurance pensions, while more than 1.2 million were receiving social assistance benefits. Nearly 15.7 million older people had health insurance cards; more than 69% had received regular health check-ups, and 80% had their health records established and managed.

Older people continue to play an active role in socio-economic development and community life. More than 9 million remain engaged in work, production and business activities, while hundreds of thousands participate in Party, government and mass-organization activities and contribute to maintaining public security and social order.  Nearly 80,000 cultural and sports clubs and more than 9,000 intergenerational self-help clubs are also helping improve the quality of life and strengthen community bonds.
