Meeting with Overseas Vietnamese and Relatives on the Occasion of Lunar New Year 2025
On the afternoon of February 2nd, the City Party Committee, Peoples Council, Peoples Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Phong organized a meeting with overseas Vietnamese and their relatives as part of the Spring of the Homeland program for 2025.

 

The program was coordinated by the Department of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Hai Phong Overseas Vietnamese Association. Mr. Le Anh Quan, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee; Mr. Hoang Minh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee; Mr. Nguyễn Mạnh Đông, Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs; Mr. Nguyễn Văn Lạng, Vice Chairman of the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese, former Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; as well as representatives from related departments and nearly 500 overseas Vietnamese and their relatives from various countries and territories around the world attended the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hoàng Minh Cường, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, quickly shared with the overseas Vietnamese community some of the outstanding achievements in the city’s socio-economic development over the past year. In 2024, Hai Phong continued to be a bright spot in the country’s economic growth, with a GRDP growth rate of over 11%, and most key economic indicators exceeding planned targets. The city’s infrastructure systems, including seaports, airports, and urban transport, have continued to be invested in, contributing to a transformed cityscape, attracting foreign investors, expanding the urban area, and strengthening connections with neighboring localities. These results have been achieved thanks to the solidarity and efforts of the entire political system and society, including the valuable and important contributions from the overseas Vietnamese community in general, and the Hai Phong people living and studying abroad in particular. The Vice Chairman expressed his hope that in 2025, the overseas Hai Phong community would continue to contribute to building and developing the city in line with their capabilities and resources, supporting trade and tourism connections between the city and other regions, as well as international organizations. The meeting took place in a warm atmosphere, filled with songs celebrating the New Year, celebrating Spring, and celebrating the country’s overcoming difficulties and continued progress with the unity of people both inside and outside the country. On this occasion, two individuals with notable achievements in the city’s social welfare efforts in 2024 were honored with certificates of merit from the Chairman of the City People's Committee./.
