Efforts To Remove Europen Commission’s Yellow Card
On February 21st morning, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong Peoples Committee, Head of the Steering Committee of Preventing Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Seafood Exploitation (IUU), chaired a meeting to hear the reports on the task of IUU prevention in the city and prepare for the upcoming inspection by the European Commission (EC) scheduled to take place this April.

Currently, there are a total of 842 qualified fishing vessels to operate in the city. They have registered on the VNFishbase system with 100% of fishing vessels marked and granted food safety certificates, fishing licenses, and installation of cruise surveillance devices under the regulations. After past inspections against IUU fishing, the city has not recorded any fishing vessels violating foreign waters. However, some fishing vessels have lost connection, whose exploitation reports and purchasing reports failed to meet the city’s regulations. There are still several unregistered small vessels that are operating. In the coming time, to effectively combat IUU fishing, the agricultural sector will focus on implementing key solutions, such as providing information, strengthening propaganda and raising awareness of fishermen, closely monitoring the activities of fishing vessels when operating at sea, docking and leaving the port to handle violations resolutely./.
