Promoting bilateral cooperation between Cheongju (Korea) and Hai Phong City
On April 15th afternoon, Mr. Le Anh Quan, Vice Chairman of the Standing Board of Hai Phong City People’s Committee welcomed and worked with the Government Delegation from Cheongju (South Korea) led by Mayor Lee Beom Seog.

 

Welcoming the Cheongju City Government Delegation (Korea) to visit and work in Hai Phong, Mr. Le Anh Quan introduced to the Delegation the highlights of the city, especially the city’s socio-economic status quo and development.

Accordingly, Hai Phong City in recent years has been one of the localities with the highest growth rate in Vietnam. The geographical benefits make Hai Phong an important traffic and exchange hub in Vietnam and internationally. The city has a synchronous infrastructure system, convenient inter-province, inter-region, and global transportation system with 5 modes of transport. The city's modern-oriented seaport system is the largest in North Vietnam. Hai Phong’s Cat Bi International Airport is qualified for the 4E standards of the World Civil Aviation Organization and can receive the largest aircraft. Thus, Hai Phong became a bright spot in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and is always among the top localities in the country. Besides the Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone and 14 Industrial Parks with outstanding investment incentives the city is focusing on promoting and attracting investment towards developing three economic pillars including industry - high technology, seaport - logistics, 

In 2023, the Prime Minister of Vietnam signed a Decision approving Hai Phong City’s General Planning for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 to prioritize the development of key industries that play a leading role in the city's economic growth, which are Electronics and information technology; Seaport and logistics services; and Commerce. Hai Phong City is also researching to establish a coastal economic zone south of the city to ensure balance and harmony between economic benefits and green, sustainable development.

Korea currently ranks first in the total number of projects and total registered investment capital among 42 countries and territories investing in Hai Phong City with a total of 183 projects and total registered investment capital cumulating 11.5 billion USD, of which 106 projects are in the economic zone reaching 10.46 billion USD while the 77 projects outside the zone account for 1.069 billion USD in capital. The projects of Korean investors in the city are considered to operate effectively, with many high-tech products that gradually help improve the city’s technology and science content of businesses, increase export turnover, solve labor problems, contribute to the city budget, etc.

Mr. Le Anh Quan hopes that in the coming time, Hai Phong City can learn from the experiences of Cheongju City in all fields, especially in high technology.

Mayor Lee Beom Seog thanked the leaders of Hai Phong City for the courteous welcome and expressed his impression of Hai Phong's development speed. Mayor Lee Beom Seog also introduced Cheongju City with its strengths in biotechnology, information technology, renewable energy, etc.–a common point with Hai Phong's economic development orientation. Recently, Cheongju Technology Park and Hai Phong Department of Science and Technology, Hai Phong University; Cheongju Free Economic Zone Management Board and Hai Phong Young Entrepreneurs Association have signed cooperation agreements.

Aiming to expand and further develop relationships with Korean provinces and cities, the Hai Phong City People's Committee and Cheongju City Government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen friendly cooperation and implement practical and specific cooperation programs and projects in the future between the two cities./.
