Vietnam,
Laos, Cambodia enhance co-operation for prevention of infectious
diseases
The health
sectors of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia have made active progress in their
co-operation and sharing of experiences in preventing the spread of infectious
diseases across borders.
The affirmation was made by Deputy
Director of the Vietnam Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of
Health at a workshop on ‘Sharing information and experiences in preventing the
spread of infectious diseases across the three countries’ cross-borders’ in Da
Nang city on December 4.
The Deputy Director also appreciated
the sharing of three countries’ experiences in medical quarantine at the
Vietnam – Laos – Cambodia border crossings and co-operation activities in the
project for infectious diseases prevention in the Greater Mekong Sub-region
sponsored by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The participants heard reports on
the status of imminent threats of infectious diseases and the work on
surveillance and handling of infectious diseases in the three regions’ border
provinces during the 2012 – 2014 period.
The delegates agreed on action plans
for the collaborative prevention of infectious diseases, especially the Ebola
epidemic and type A influenza (H5N1, H7N9) at the border crossings of the three
countries.
They also proposed the ministries of
heath in the three countries share information on the status of the diseases
via email and support the improvement of quarantine systems at the three
countries’ border crossings.
