A conference, aiming to boost youth co-operation between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, opened in Hanoi on December 8, with the participation of 60 delegates from the three countries.

Addressing the opening ceremony, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, Nguyen Dac Vinh, highlighted the long standing friendship among the three neighbouring countries as an invaluable asset, noting the new young generations’ most important tasks is to inherit and further develop the ties of traditional friendship nurtured by their ancestors.

The conference is a good opportunity for senior leaders of youth organisations to discuss working experiences and learn from each other about effective co-operation models, according to Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Commission for External Affairs Hoang Binh Quan.

He affirmed the event is a practical activity contributing to education on the friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive co-operation between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia to younger generations.

He also expressed his hope that participants will discuss experience and measures to enhance youth co-operation and promote the pioneering spirit of youth.

As part of the event, a series of activities including meetings, workshops and tours to historical sites and landscapes are scheduled, aiming to educate the young people on the traditional friendship and solidarity between people of the three nations.

Speaking at the event, Vilayvong Bouddakham, First Secretary of the Central Committee of Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union and President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) Hun Many said the event offers young people from the three nations a chance to exchange views on issues of shared concern and to work out effective measures to foster co-operation between youth organisations.

The event runs until to December 12.

After the opening ceremony, the delegates from three countries participated in two workshops on experiences in organising activities for social security and community; preserving and promoting solidarity, friendship and co-operation between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
