Combat against avian influenza
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, since the beginning of the year, avian influenza has broken out in 13 provinces and cities, including Hai Phong. Facing with the risk of disease transmission, especially during the seasonal transition, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has directed localities to strengthen disease prevention measures and accelerate the vaccination against avian influenza.
The total poultry herd in the city is currently estimated at about 25 million. As of the end of November, localities have the second round of influenza vaccination with more than 5.2 million doses for poultry, reaching 87% of the vaccination plan.
Currently, the avian influenza epidemic in the city has been under control, however, the results of sampling and monitoring at some live poultry markets show that about 3.5% of samples are positive for avian influenza viruses. In addition, the seasonal transition gives a favorable condition for influenza viruses to spread, so speeding up the vaccination against influenza is vital.
Given the risk of disease intrusion, especially at year-end when the total poultry population, the demand for slaughter, transportation and consumption increases, it is necessary to accelerate vaccination and strictly implement disease prevention measures to minimize the risk of avian influenza outbreak, causing damage to livestock production, preventing the disease from spreading to humans, and ensuring food sources to meet people's needs during the Lunar New Year.
