ROLE OF MANAGING AGENCIES IN LOGISTICS DEVELOPMENT REINFORCED

This morning, Haiphong Department of Customs held a workshop on “Logistics development of Haiphong city and the role of managing agencies in logistics development”. The workshop lured the attendance of 27 port warehouse units and shipping lines together with leading logistics enterprises of the North. Mr. Nguyen Van Tung – Chairman of Haiphong People’s Committee attended the event.

The workshop themed “Logistics development of Haiphong city” organized by Haiphong Department of Customs once again took a close insight over the logistics status of Haiphong. That is Haiphong’s logistics is just handling the simple procedures as stevedoring, warehouse and road transportation. The income from these stages is still low and generates modest added value. The business system of port, warehouses and transport is till scattered without fair competitiveness.

The workshop also figured out the lack of large-scaled logistics centers that can lure shipping lines, producers, importers and exporters. Logistics activities in Haiphong have merely focused on gathering cargoes for foreign firms, regardless to the deficiency of human resources.

Hence, the workshop put forth the issue: in the logistics chains, Haiphong’s logistics agencies will take the leading role and responsibility for management. This suits with the Decision No.549 of the municipal people’s committee on ratifying the Planning for Development of Logistics Services System of Haiphong till 2025 with visions towards 2030, with the strategy to make concentration on developing a varied forms of major logistics services, directly serving the seaport and airport system in Haiphong area./.
