Fight against IUU fishing strengthened
In preparation for the 5th inspection by the European Commission (EC) on Vietnamese aquatic products, the city has recently applied a series of solutions to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
As of October 18, 2025, the total number of fishing vessels registered and updated on the Vnfishbase software reaches 809. The fishing vessels have had their data cleaned and cross-checked on VneID. The number of fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more that have installed voyage surveillance equipment reaches 100%. The number of fishing vessels with a length of 12m or more that must be inspected reaches 428. Currently, in the city, there are 10 vessels that are not qualified to operate. The locations of 10 fishing vessels have been clearly identified and strictly managed to prevent them from going to sea. No organizations or individuals have been recorded to become broker, bring fishing vessels and fishermen from Hai Phong to illegally exploit seafood in foreign waters or have been arrested by foreign countries. In addition, 93 fishing vessels have been suspected of VMS connection loss.
